what we do
Our conservators conserve or restore your artworks, antiques, artefacts or other objects of cultural or heritage significance.
We advise on the care and management of your cultural or historic collections.
We assess the condition of cultural items or heritage places, and make recommendations for conservation, repair or maintenance.
We provide practical solutions to complex conservation challenges.
We work as conservators, consultants or contractors, depending on the particular needs of our clients.
The professional conservators in our Materials Conservation Division undertake hands-on conservation treatment of your objects, textiles, paintings, artworks, furniture, photographs, sculptures, ethnographic metal and stone artefacts, archaeological material, monuments, memorials or building finishes, either in our conservation studios, or on site.
Our conservation treatments vary from preventive conservation approaches managing the environmental conditions for an object to stabilisation, reconstruction, restoration or museum-grade conservation. We clean, repair, mend, consolidate, patch, infill, refinish, and remove stains from artworks, artifacts or antiques; we also frame, mount, wrap, store, relocate, and rehang as appropriate.
museums and collections
Our Collections Management Division consults on all aspects of the care, management and access to your collections, whether these are held in public, corporate or private hands. We advise on museum and gallery planning, storage facilities, and technological and digital solutions.
We have extensive experience in the mounting, presentation and installation of objects for exhibition. We coordinate the design and installation of exhibitions of all sizes, as well as providing management services for the development of exhibitions.
We also provide a full heritage interpretation service to help tell the great stories associated with your heritage places or items in a fresh and engaging way. This may vary from the development of interpretation strategies and plans through to the design, documentation, fabrication and installation of a wide range of interpretive devices.
buildings and monuments
We have in-house skills and experience across the full spectrum of building conservation, ranging from the planning and design phases through to the hands-on execution of conservation works on-site.
Our Architectural Conservation staff are skilled in condition assessment and diagnosis of deterioration mechanisms on a wide range of materials and structures. We identify a range of conservation, repair or maintenance options, and produce prescriptive documentation (specifications and drawings) for the agreed approach, as well as supervising or advising during works on site.
Alternatively, we provide a "design-conserve" solution for your heritage places, from small sculptures or wall paintings, through unique elements of large buildings or engineering structures, to archaeological sites and remains. This combines our analysis and documentation skills with our in-house team of conservators and project managers to deliver a complete package from identification of the optimum conservation solution through to delivery of the conservation works.
