coolmore Australia collection advice

Coolmore Stud is one of the world's largest breeding operations of thoroughbred racehorses, with stables in Europe, Australia and North America. Coolmore Australia operates from Jerrys Plains in the Hunter Valley with around 1,000 horses on their 8,000 acre farm including numerous international quality stallions. It is often referred to as the 'Home of Champions'.

ICS was commissioned to develop a strategy for presentation of Coolmore Australia's extensive collection of photographs and memorabilia in their administration offices. Their collection consists of over 450 pieces including photographs; oil paintings and prints of horses and racing scenes; newspaper clippings and cartoons; trophies; cups and related memorabilia; table top bronzes of Coolmore champions and several racing silks.

Coolmore Australia wished to present their collection in a way that linked in with their stables and provided clients and visitors with a good overview of their operations as well as the stories behind various items in the collection. They also wished to present some of their historic material in a museum format.

Outcomes

  • Assessment of the collection
  • Development of themes for presentation
  • Identified zones within the new offices for presenting the material
  • Organised extensive reframing
  • Managed hanging of the collection
