Scope

The Sydney Conservatorium of Music is housed in the original stable block for Government House Sydney, designed by Francis Greenway in 1812. In 1999 the Conservatorium was heavily redeveloped during which extensive archaeological remnants of the colonial era were revealed. ICS were the archaeological conservation consultants throughout the project, advising on the stabilisation, conservation and display of the remains. The remains included a series of barrel and dish drains, a well, part of the original approach road and thousands of artefacts. ICS continues to maintain the display and provide advice on the ongoing care of the in-situ archaeology.

Treatment

  • Stabilisation recommendations for in-situ features
  • Conservation and stabilisation of archaeological remains
  • Provision of display advice and artefacts
  • Ongoing maintenance of display
