International Conservation Services Pty Ltd carries a full range of business insurances, including:
- Workers' Compensation
- Public Liability
- Fine Art
- Professional Indemnity
We carry this insurance for a variety of reasons, including to:
- Satisfy legal requirements
- Satisfy commercial and contractal requirements on larger projects
- Protect our clients' interests
- Ensure that in the event of a disaster, we are able to continue trading
When you leave an object for assessment or conservation treatment, the object is insured against loss or damage whilst in our care (our Fine Art policy). This includes theft, fire or flood damage, or breakage. The object is covered on our premises in Sydney or Canberra, in transit organised by us, or with our subcontractor (e.g. for fumigation).
For the purposes of this insurance, we require you to tell us the value of your object(s) at the time you leave it in our care. This value is the maximum sum for which the object is covered whilst in our care. It also allows us to ensure that the total value of objects in our care at any one time is less than the amount of our insurance cover.
This value should be the amount for which you personally have the object insured. Generally speaking, this should be based on a written valuation by a recognised valuer, or the purchase receipt. We would only need to see evidence of your valuation in the event of a claim being required.
We want to reassure you that we believe insurance to be an item which is essential only as a business expense, and to provide our clients with additional confidence in our services. We pride ourselves on not having needed to lodge an insurance claim for clients' objects in 20 years of business and caring for tens of thousands of objects. We focus on handling and storing your objects in accordance with museum standard procedures in order to minimise the risk of loss or damage whilst in our care.
Should you consider it necessary, we can provide you with an opportunity to view the certificates of currency for our insurance policies.
If you have any further questions, please ask your Conservator, or feel free to contact us on (02) 9417 3311. Thank you for entrusting us with the care and conservation of your object.
