The first step in conserving artworks, artefacts or antiques is understanding what condition the item is in. This includes establishing how and why it has deteriorated and whether the deterioration is active or past.
Our conservators inspect the object in detail. This often requires partial dissassembly (e.g. removal from frame) or careful non destructive testing. It also includes discussion with you to understand the history of the item, and the conditions in which it has been stored or displayed.
We provide a free condition assessment as part of a quotation for conservation, restoration or repair of your object.
We will charge you a consulting fee to prepare a condition assessment report for the purposes of:
- sale or purchase of the object
- loan of the object
- insurance claim
- legal action
- specific conservation works on a building
