2016 westmead hospital art prize
The Westmead Hospital Art Prize has been established to support the art program for Westmead Hospital, one of the largest hospitals in NSW. Artworks are highly valued by the Hospital's many patients, visitors and staff and the Prize has contributed hundreds of artworks to the hospital.
After five years as an annual prize, Westmead Hospital Art Prize has now become a biennial event. The next Art Prize will be held towards the end of 2016.
In recent years the Art Prize asked entrants to respond to a broad theme. In 2014, the theme was 'redevelopment, renewal and revitalization', in recognition of the process of redevelopment and renewal that Westmead Hospital is currently undergoing. All entries for the Art Prize should also reflect the purpose of art within hospitals, which is to provide a welcoming, healing and calming environment, to help people through providing positive distraction.
The Art Prize invites entries across three categories: Small artworks, Photography, and Large Artworks. Artworks by all Prize-winners as well as artworks by Finalists in the small artwork and photographic categories enter the Hospital's Art Collection and are put on rotating display for the enjoyment of hospital visitors, patients and staff.
Further details about the 2016 Westmead Hospital Art Prize will be released later in 2016.
